Wonder by R. J. Palacio is a heartwarming story about a 5th grader named August “Auggie” Pullman who was born with a face that looks different. His facial difference can shock people at first, but once you get to know Auggie that only thing that shocks you is how extraordinary and brave this young boy truly is. This book follows many different characters as they explain how Auggie has touched their lives and shows it’s readers how powerful it is to be kind. I would recommend Wonder to anyone older than 9, but find it especially influential for middle schoolers as this story really shows the stuggles of middle school, espcially for those who are a little different. It also helps show what it feels like to be bullied and shows how much being kind can touch those around you. What makes this book high quality is how it highlights what life is like for those who are different, showing some of the struggles and battles they face everyday. It also is reviewed numerous awards such as the #1 New York Times Bestseller and has even started the Choose Kind movement so many others have agreed that this story is a beautiful tale of hope and touches your heart.
